Responsibilities
- Design, build, manage, sustain, and evolve high-scale cloud-based services for geospatial and weather data.
- Ingest, store, transform, and distribute geospatially referenced data across a large distributed service fleet.
- Champion thoughtful AI adoption and evaluate AI capabilities with science and technology colleagues.
- Modernize legacy systems and propose sustainable replacements that enable automation.
- Influence technical direction across development and operational support teams.
- Advance 3–5 or more concurrent initiatives from assessment through production deployment and sustaining engineering.
- Drive innovation in visualization and delivery of consumer, aviation, and B2B datasets.
- Support internal tooling for sellers, product owners, and support teams accessing the SSDS product catalog.
- Contribute to cost optimization, security compliance, and platform reliability.
- Use AI coding assistants such as Claude Code or Cursor daily.
- Collaborate with product, operations, and external enterprise clients.
Requirements
- 5–8 or more years of software engineering experience focused on backend systems hosted in the cloud, with AWS strongly preferred.
- Production experience with geospatial data systems, tile serving, coordinate systems, or related tooling.
- Experience delivering and supporting large-scale distributed systems across the full software lifecycle.
- Experience working in 24x7 operational environments with mission-critical reliability requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to complete 3–5 or more concurrent technical initiatives.
- Practical experience integrating LLM and modern AI capabilities through APIs, prompt engineering, RAG, agentic workflows, or similar approaches.
- Production-level proficiency in Java or GoLang.
- Demonstrated daily use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or similar.
- Strong communication skills and comfort working in a high-ownership environment.
