Responsibilities

  • Design and build a universal, stateless Apache Camel and Quarkus gateway with externally configured hospital identities, transformations, and routes.
  • Implement guaranteed delivery, idempotent consumption, redelivery, dead-letter handling, traceability, replay, and protection against silent data loss.
  • Implement container-level tenant isolation, mTLS, dynamic certificate retrieval, and PII/PPID/BSN log masking.
  • Build configuration-driven hospital onboarding using JSON mappings, credentials, Amazon S3, and AWS Secrets Manager without hospital-specific code changes.
  • Deliver and validate an OCI/Docker image for AWS ECS/Fargate and target on-premise hospital deployment.
  • Deliver a first end-to-end integration with a GLIMS-based hospital.
  • Set up CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code with version-controlled, reproducible environment and route configuration.
  • Validate Quarkus native boot-time and memory assumptions against the implemented gateway.
  • Produce architecture documentation, configuration schemas, onboarding examples, operational runbooks, and knowledge-transfer sessions for the incoming Integration Engineer.

Requirements

  • Proven production experience with Apache Camel or substantial experience with a comparable enterprise integration framework such as Spring Integration, MuleSoft, or Red Hat Fuse, with the ability to ramp up on Camel.
  • Strong Quarkus experience or comparable JVM native-image/cloud-native experience with Spring Boot and GraalVM or Micronaut.
  • Solid Java backend development experience.
  • Experience with container-based multi-tenant architectures and OS-level isolation patterns.
  • Experience with mTLS, certificate lifecycle management, and secrets management such as AWS Secrets Manager.
  • Experience with AWS ECS/Fargate, S3, Secrets Manager, and CloudWatch.
  • Experience delivering in a regulated or compliance-sensitive environment is strongly preferred, particularly GDPR or NEN 7510 awareness.
  • Demonstrated ability to write maintainable technical documentation and hand over systems to an operating team.
  • The engagement requires full-time availability for approximately 32–40 hours per week.

Benefits

  • Full-time freelance/contractor engagement starting as soon as possible, expected to last approximately three to six months and concluding around mid-March 2027.
  • Hybrid work arrangement in Utrecht.
  • Opportunity to shape integration infrastructure for an autonomous medical-robotics platform and contribute to healthcare technology affecting patients and healthcare professionals.
  • The assignment includes structured knowledge transfer and a defined handover to Vitestro’s permanent Integration Engineer.
