Responsibilities

  • Develop core C++ services that orchestrate UAV and USV swarms and maintain synchronized battlefield state across distributed systems.
  • Design and implement high-performance gRPC and REST APIs connecting the frontend command-and-control interface with autonomous vehicles.
  • Build and optimize low-latency telemetry pipelines for high-frequency data from diverse sensors.
  • Expand the C++ architecture to support controlling 20 or more vehicles simultaneously.
  • Implement military standards and protocols such as STANAG for system interoperability.
  • Build and maintain test suites for reliability under contested operating conditions.
  • Drive architecture and solve complex systems problems involving data flows, state machines, concurrency, and the hardware-software boundary.
  • Collaborate with frontend, robotics, safety, mission-planning, and integration engineers.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of backend or systems engineering experience focused primarily on high-performance C++ applications.
  • Deep proficiency in Modern C++ 17 or later, including performance, memory allocation, RAII, and deterministic systems.
  • Strong understanding of asynchronous networking, inter-process communication, and real-time data streaming.
  • Relevant experience in aerospace, robotics, automotive, sensors, high-frequency trading, or another domain where software interacts with the physical world in real time.
  • Ability to work with distributed systems, concurrency, state machines, and hardware-software integration.
  • Familiarity with autopilot or flight-control systems such as MAVLink, PX4, or ArduPilot is a bonus.
  • Experience with geospatial data handling or safety-critical software systems is a bonus.

Benefits

  • Work on software used by NATO militaries for critical autonomous-system missions.
  • Join a small, senior software group working directly with systems and hardware teams.
  • Solve novel engineering problems for autonomous swarming with no off-the-shelf solution.
  • Work from the role’s stated Berlin or Munich team locations; the posting does not specify a remote or hybrid arrangement.
  • Submit a CV in English.
