Responsibilities
- Apply modeling and simulation and machine learning approaches to optimize high-speed manufacturing processes.
- Develop digital twins for virtual qualification, real-time manufacturing optimization, and warehouse optimization.
- Build fast surrogate models using finite element analysis, computational fluid dynamics, production system modeling, machine learning, and physical data.
- Analyze large datasets and convert ML and modeling insights into actionable engineering and business recommendations.
- Collaborate with R&D scientists, engineers, manufacturing experts, and data infrastructure teams.
- Balance in-house development against turnkey partner solutions and own build-versus-buy recommendations and technical due diligence.
- Use engineering first principles across fields such as mechanical, electrical, chemical, and metallurgical engineering.
- Develop, test, and document engineering applications using AI-assisted software development tools.
Requirements
- Master’s or PhD degree in an engineering discipline, or an advanced degree in computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, or a related quantitative field, with demonstrated practical AI/ML experience or publications applied to engineering problems.
- Strong foundation in an engineering discipline such as mechanical, chemical, materials science, electrical, metallurgical, or aerospace engineering.
- Hands-on coding mastery in one or more of Python, R, or C++, with Python or R required.
- Expertise analyzing large datasets to produce actionable insights.
- Experience combining engineering first principles with advanced machine learning to develop surrogate models.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and data infrastructure, or strong interest in real-world engineering problems.
- Strong communication skills for explaining data-driven insights, context, and potential solutions to engineers.
- Preferred knowledge of deep learning, data mining, optimization, model reduction, dimensionality reduction, databases, and data processing.
- Preferred experience with Unix/Linux, scientific computing, Keras, TensorFlow, high-performance parallel and distributed computing, data visualization, and data management systems.
- Experience or interest in integrated control systems is a plus.
