Responsibilities
- Design, build, test, deploy, and own Spring Boot microservices through production.
- Implement event-driven publish/subscribe messaging and distributed transaction patterns such as saga and orchestration.
- Design and consume APIs, webhooks, and subscription APIs while contributing to API contracts and versioning.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code for AWS-hosted services.
- Diagnose distributed-service issues using logging, tracing, metrics, and observability tools.
- Integrate LLMs using function/tool calling, structured outputs, and Model Context Protocol, while implementing AI safety and governance controls.
- Maintain technical health, architectural performance, scalability, and code quality across the services.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience building backend services in Java.
- At least 2+ years of experience with microservices and event-driven systems.
- Deep hands-on Java expertise with object-oriented programming and concurrency fundamentals, with Java 17+ preferred.
- Production experience with Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, and AWS services including DynamoDB, Kinesis, SQS, SNS, KMS, API Gateway, ECS/EKS, Lambda, IAM, and RDS.
- Fluency with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code or Copilot and the ability to critically review generated code.
- Testing experience with JUnit, Mockito, and integration testing.
- Must be located in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale area and available for 100% on-site contract work.
- Preferred qualifications include financial services or payments experience, ISO 20022 or FAIM familiarity, Docker and Kubernetes, Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK, Temporal, Camunda, AWS Step Functions, vector stores/RAG, prompt engineering, and AI observability.
