Base Salary
$192k - $240k/yr
Responsibilities
- Analyze and optimize query plans, execution paths, cost models, joins, and indexing strategies.
- Improve schemas and access patterns to resolve systemic performance bottlenecks.
- Debug and remediate P95/P99 latency issues in production under load.
- Design and operate distributed systems considering consistency, latency, caching, and failure modes.
- Identify scaling risks and long-term reliability gaps in existing architectures.
- Implement and improve caching strategies, read/write separation, and replica usage.
- Contribute to backend systems primarily in Kotlin and Java within the JVM ecosystem.
- Raise the technical bar through design reviews and clear communication of tradeoffs.
Requirements
- At least 7 years of backend engineering experience building and operating production systems at scale.
- Experience building platforms or infrastructure used by real customers.
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Deep hands-on experience with relational databases, with Postgres or Aurora strongly preferred.
- Strong expertise in query plan design and analysis, indexing strategies, and real-world database optimization.
- Hands-on production experience with OpenSearch, Elasticsearch, or similar systems is a bonus.
- Experience with multi-tenant or data-heavy platforms is a bonus.
