Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain core APIs and backend services for the mobile app and marketplace.
- Own production operations and monitoring for backend systems.
- Review backend designs and API changes across squads to ensure compatibility with mobile-app constraints.
- Integrate third-party systems and APIs into the platform.
- Own the design and implementation of new features and services.
- Identify and promote engineering best practices and standards.
- Document and demonstrate technical solutions through clear documentation and code.
- Mentor junior engineers and onboard new colleagues.
- Collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers, and business stakeholders.
- Occasionally propagate backend changes to frontend applications.
Requirements
- At least 7 years of experience designing and building scalable backend services in modern production environments.
- Strong proficiency in Go and a deep understanding of distributed systems and service-oriented architecture.
- Comfort with JavaScript and TypeScript, or the ability to quickly learn Node.js.
- Experience working on a team that builds and maintains a native mobile app, including knowledge of mobile API design, versioning, backward compatibility, release cycles, latency, and offline behavior.
- Strong SQL and relational database-design skills.
- General frontend knowledge and the ability to perform basic frontend tasks.
- Strong ownership, initiative, learning ability, and clear collaborative communication.
- Excellent English skills and residence in a European time zone.
- A degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience, is desired.
- Experience reviewing designs and guiding engineers across squads is a bonus.
