Responsibilities
- Design database schemas, tables, relationships, indexes, data models, and database architectures
- Develop and implement databases that support business requirements, data integrity, and efficient organization
- Write and optimize complex SQL queries and manage indexes for database performance
- Install, configure, maintain, monitor, and update database management systems
- Implement data security measures including encryption, access controls, and auditing
- Diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks, data inconsistencies, connectivity problems, and other database issues
- Develop and execute backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies
- Ensure database systems comply with relevant laws and regulations such as GDPR and HIPAA
- Collaborate with developers, system administrators, IT professionals, and stakeholders on database projects and integrations
- Write scripts and use automation tools for deployment, monitoring, maintenance, and routine database tasks
- Provide database support, documentation, and training to developers and other users
- Stay current with database technologies and implement improvements to database systems and processes
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as a database administrator
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or data science, or equivalent experience
- Fluent spoken and written English
- Experience with databases and data warehousing, including OLTP, ETL, and multiple relational database management systems
- Experience with big data processing, monitoring, and maintenance
- Proficiency in SQL and Python, including Pandas, NumPy, and Pydantic
- R is a plus
- Experience with data analysis and serverless data solutions
- Experience with BigQuery or an equivalent cloud data warehouse
- Knowledge of operating systems
- Knowledge of enterprise security and IT fundamentals
- Basic understanding of machine learning
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, planning, time-management, communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects
