Base Salary

$131k - $218k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor multidisciplinary teams delivering manufacturing and vehicle/mission autonomy solutions.
  • Invent, prototype, and mature embodied AI and autonomy from TRL 2–6 across robotic cell design, sensing, perception, controls, planning, and behavior or policy learning.
  • Build high-quality, scalable, reusable robotics and autonomy software using modern development tools and practices.
  • Collaborate with GE Aerospace programs and product teams to align research with business needs and transition technologies into products.
  • Shape autonomy strategy with internal experts and external academic, industry, and government partners.
  • Communicate research through publications, internal reviews, demonstrations, and customer or partner engagements.
  • Create and protect intellectual property through invention disclosures and patents.
  • Mentor multidisciplinary engineers and grow as a technical or organizational leader.

Requirements

  • PhD with 5+ years, MS with 7+ years, or BS with 10+ years in robotics, mechatronics, mechanical engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, physics, or a related field focused on robotic or vehicle autonomy.
  • At least 4 years of commercial or industrial experience applying robotics or autonomy to real-world systems.
  • Strong rapid-prototyping skills for robust, efficient, and scalable software.
  • Strong grounding in robotics theory, including kinematics, dynamics, control, planning, and perception.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ for edge or real-time systems.
  • Experience with the Robot Operating System (ROS).
  • Expertise in vehicle autonomy, mission autonomy, high-mix robot autonomy, robotic manufacturing automation, human-machine teaming, or human-robot interaction is preferred.
  • Experience with externally funded research, including proposals and collaboration with agencies such as DARPA, ARL, AFRL, or ONR, is preferred.
  • Postdoctoral or industrial experience inventing and advancing autonomous systems technologies is preferred.
  • A strong record of peer-reviewed publications, open-source contributions, or a strong GitHub portfolio is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial robotic arms or high-mix robotic workcells is preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required as a prerequisite for clearance.
  • Must be willing to travel at least two weeks per year and relocate to the Niskayuna, New York office.
