Base Salary
$183k - $245k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and test infrastructure enabling Payments and Risk teams to create tailored product experiences.
- Scale Gusto’s Ruby/Rails and TypeScript/React applications.
- Build the software platform powering multiple first- and third-party products serving millions of businesses.
- Drive large technical architecture decisions focused on scale, modularity, and desired system end states.
- Execute end-to-end projects and maintain robust, structured, well-documented production code.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Product Management, Design, Data Science, Operations, and other cross-functional teams.
- Mentor and grow fellow engineers.
Requirements
- At least 7 years of software engineering experience.
- Experience building fault-tolerant, mission-critical software and robust distributed systems using multiple general-purpose programming languages.
- Experience influencing and guiding multiple teams through scaling, refactoring, and optimization of legacy products.
- Experience architecting, building, and testing large-scale production code that is maintainable, structured, and well documented.
- Ability to clarify complex and ambiguous problems, communicate technical complexity, and facilitate informed tradeoffs.
- Experience in payments and/or accounting systems is highly preferred.
- Ruby on Rails, TypeScript, and React experience is a bonus.
- Enthusiasm for a collaborative, test-driven environment.
