Responsibilities
- Provide technical direction for Heartbeat AI in Australia and remain accountable for quality and delivery.
- Develop and localize the energy management system for Australian tariffs and market structures.
- Set technical standards and personally solve difficult engineering problems.
- Translate business and product requirements into technical solutions.
- Coordinate technical decisions and their business impact across Australian teams, German engineering teams, and partners.
- Help shape the team, participate in hiring, and mentor incoming engineers.
- Build with AI-assisted development and agentic workflows while maintaining human accountability.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of software engineering experience in a fast-paced, scalable environment.
- Experience leading or mentoring engineers or technical teams; formal line management experience is a plus.
- Hands-on expertise in distributed systems and cloud, including designing APIs and integrations.
- Experience with data-intensive, IoT, or energy-related systems.
- Strong written and spoken English communication skills, including explaining technical decisions in business terms.
- Experience enabling AI-assisted engineering workflows.
- Ability to regularly overlap with German working hours, including occasional unusual meeting times.
- Based in Sydney.
- Bonus: climate-tech or energy-industry experience, knowledge of the Australian electricity market and tariffs, or experience as an early engineering hire or regional team builder.
