Responsibilities
- Operate and evolve Kubernetes-based platforms across CDSE and other sovereign deployments, including upgrades, capacity planning, networking, autoscaling, and deployment consistency.
- Define infrastructure-as-code and GitOps-style release workflows using Terraform, Helm, and GitLab CI.
- Own reliability through SLIs, SLOs, alerts, Grafana dashboards, runbooks, load testing, and SLA availability reporting.
- Respond to incidents, participate in on-call rotations, lead blameless post-mortems, and implement lasting fixes.
- Operate PostgreSQL/PostGIS, object storage, and search indices, including backup, restore, and disaster recovery.
- Contribute to access control, secrets management, patching, vulnerability management, security audits, and customer security reviews.
- Collaborate with project partners and customer technical teams, maintain operational documentation, review changes, and mentor teammates.
Requirements
- At least 6 years of DevOps, SRE, or infrastructure engineering experience running distributed, low-latency, high-volume production services.
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
- Production experience operating Kubernetes or Nomad, including troubleshooting, upgrades, ingress, networking, resource management, and autoscaling.
- Experience with infrastructure as code, CI/CD, Git, and Docker, including tools such as Terraform, Helm, and GitLab CI.
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus and Grafana, including meaningful alert definition.
- Solid Linux and networking fundamentals with scripting or programming experience in Python, Go, or Bash.
- Experience with GCP, AWS, or comparable infrastructure such as OpenStack, including object storage such as S3.
- Operational experience with relational databases, ideally PostgreSQL, and with incidents and on-call rotations.
- Strong written and verbal communication, collaboration across time zones, ability to work through ambiguity, and professional working proficiency in English.
- Preferred experience includes sovereign, regulated, or public-sector environments; ISO 27001 or comparable frameworks; Argo CD or Flux; Java/JVM operations; Elasticsearch or OpenSearch; and Earth Observation technologies or standards such as COGs, STAC, OGC web services, or openEO.
