Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end technical engagements with engineering teams to diagnose, unblock, and resolve infrastructure challenges.
- Develop reference implementations, tooling, and guidance for migrations away from deprecated systems.
- Serve as the primary technical contact for teams onboarding to Planet’s core infrastructure.
- Consolidate disparate solutions into standardized, supported platform paths.
- Build reusable libraries, Terraform modules, and Helm charts for recurring infrastructure patterns.
- Implement instrumentation and attribution tooling for infrastructure cost, usage, and adoption visibility.
- Synthesize engineering feedback and recurring pain points to influence the infrastructure roadmap.
Requirements
- 6+ years of professional experience in Platform Engineering, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering, including leadership of at least one cross-team project or migration.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
- Background in technical enablement, developer experience, or solutions architecture focused on internal developer productivity.
- Hands-on experience operating and maintaining production infrastructure environments.
- Deep expertise with Kubernetes orchestration, including workload optimization and operations.
- Working knowledge of Google Cloud Platform or other public cloud providers, including compute, storage, quota, and capacity modes.
- Experience with Terraform, Helm, ArgoCD, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Proficiency in software development using Go or Python.
- Ability to turn ambiguous requirements into structured, actionable engineering tasks.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and cross-functional collaboration.
- Experience with fleet-scale block storage such as Persistent Disk, Hyperdisk, Ceph, SAN, or equivalent is preferred.
- Experience with large-scale migrations or deprecations requiring buy-in from teams outside the reporting line is preferred.
- Consulting-adjacent engineering experience, such as solutions architecture, professional services, or technical account engineering, is preferred.
- Familiarity with Temporal, batch and job-execution systems, or large-scale data processing pipelines is preferred.
- Experience defining and measuring platform adoption through developer-productivity instrumentation, NPS, or internal market share is preferred.
