Responsibilities

  • Mine large-scale fleet data for rare, long-tail, and safety-critical events using active learning, smart sampling, embedding-based retrieval, and deduplication.
  • Determine which data, mixtures, and balances improve model performance and establish repeatable curation across cities, sensor rigs, and embodiments.
  • Build semi-automated enrichment, labeling, and data-quality pipelines for teams across the company.
  • Build and fine-tune large pretrained models and run smaller experiments to validate ideas before committing substantial compute.
  • Advance embodied vision-language and vision-language-action models for autonomous driving.
  • Design rigorous offline and closed-loop evaluations, including metrics and benchmarks for real-world behavior and safety.
  • Use the GAIA world model to evaluate counterfactual scenarios and contribute to policy learning, reinforcement learning, and reward modeling.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in computer science, machine learning, robotics, mathematics, or a related field with around six or more years of relevant experience, or a PhD with two or more years of relevant experience.
  • Strong machine-learning and software fundamentals with experience taking ML research into production systems at scale.
  • Hands-on expertise in one or more of data curation, foundation-model training, large-scale data wrangling, or foundation-model evaluation.
  • Experience with large-scale data and/or large neural networks, including judgment about which experiments and datasets matter.
  • Fluency in Python and a modern deep-learning framework such as PyTorch, with comfort working with large, messy real-world datasets.
  • Experience in autonomous driving, robotics, embodied AI, foundation models, VLMs, world models, diffusion or autoregressive generative models, reinforcement learning, reward modeling, large-scale data infrastructure, closed-loop or simulation-based evaluation, or safety-critical ML is desirable.
  • Publications at leading machine-learning, computer-vision, or robotics venues are desirable.

Benefits

  • Full-time role based in Sunnyvale with a hybrid policy combining office and workshop time with working from home.
  • Competitive equity package.
  • Inclusive interview experience with accommodations or adjustments available upon request.
