Responsibilities
- Build model-authoring and tuning tools for the simulation frontend, including ergonomic UI integrations with GUI extension APIs.
- Develop and maintain the simulator’s Entity-Component-System architecture, including entity lifecycle, component storage, and update loops.
- Maintain plugin and SDK infrastructure based on a versioned C ABI for external simulator extensions.
- Optimize real-time and faster-than-real-time simulation performance across hundreds of concurrent entities by addressing memory layout, cache behavior, contention, and algorithmic complexity.
- Design and support integration architecture involving gRPC services, DIS protocol interoperability, networking messaging, and file recording for analysis and playback.
- Support domain experts in integrating and enhancing capability models.
- Help establish technical direction and architectural decisions in a large shared codebase.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of professional experience with C++20 and strong knowledge of templates, move semantics, smart pointers, and framework-level design.
- Experience designing internal APIs and frameworks with emphasis on backward compatibility and developer ergonomics.
- Strong systems programming fundamentals, including memory management, shared libraries, ABI stability, linking, and operating-system interfaces.
- Comfort with linear algebra and applied mathematics.
- Familiarity with Linux-based C++ development toolchains and performance-sensitive code.
- Clear technical communication and ability to negotiate architectural decisions across a growing team.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Government Secret security clearance.
- Preferred: 5+ years of professional C++20 experience, technical leadership or mentoring, military or defense simulation, Entity-Component-System or game-engine patterns, GUI-supported workflows, gRPC, DIS/IEEE 1278.1, Python/C++ interoperability with pybind11 or embedded interpreters, behavior trees, autonomous-agent architectures, Nix, numerical simulation, physics modeling, or scientific computing.
