Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain Convex's global cloud infrastructure.
- Investigate and improve system performance and reliability.
- Prioritize projects independently in collaboration with the engineering team and CTO.
- Establish reliability guidelines and good operational practices as the team and systems scale.
- Write systems and database code.
- Participate in on-call support and troubleshoot complex production issues when needed.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of backend engineering experience building and operating infrastructure with deep knowledge of systems at scale.
- Strong understanding of systems design, operational practices, and service management.
- Experience scaling systems in a high-growth startup environment.
- Ability to write high-quality code; Rust knowledge is a plus.
- Experience with user-facing live-site services and OLTP databases is valued over OLAP or offline systems.
- Interest in working in person at Convex's San Francisco office.
- Ability to think deeply about architecture, long-term implications, simplicity, and pragmatism.
- Willingness to participate in on-call work and respond to occasional production incidents.
