Base Salary
$250k - $350k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own foundational model research for medical coding, adaptive scribing, chart understanding, and related clinical AI problems.
- Identify failure modes, form hypotheses, make architecture decisions, and drive end-to-end model-quality improvements.
- Design compounding learning loops using clinician edits, coder corrections, and audit outcomes.
- Improve Chart Chat grounding, retrieval, and reasoning across complex longitudinal patient records.
- Optimize model capability, latency, accuracy, and cost using routing, distillation, speculative decoding, and quantization.
- Contribute to population-level clinical reasoning across patient populations at scale.
- Track advances in reinforcement learning, deep learning, and clinical NLP and turn research insights into experiments and product improvements.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of ML engineering or applied research experience with a strong record of shipping production model improvements.
- Deep expertise in reinforcement learning and deep learning.
- Experience spanning research and engineering, including architecture decisions, training runs, fine-tuning pipelines, and production deployment.
- Experience with preference learning, RLHF, retrieval-augmented generation, or multi-label classification.
- Strong Python fundamentals and experience with deep learning frameworks, preferably PyTorch.
- Evidence of driving model-quality improvements end to end, from identifying failure modes through shipping and measuring fixes.
- Experience operating at the frontier of a difficult technical problem rather than only applying standard techniques.
- Staff-level scope, including ownership of research directions and influence on technical decisions across teams.
- Passion for healthcare or other high-stakes, mission-driven industries.
- Preferred: publications at venues such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, ACL, or EMNLP.
- Preferred: clinical data experience, including EHR systems, FHIR, medical coding ontologies, or clinical NLP.
- Preferred: prior healthcare AI or regulated-domain experience and open-source contributions to ML libraries, benchmarks, or evaluation frameworks.
