Responsibilities
- Own and operate production Kubernetes clusters, including capacity, upgrades, security, multi-tenancy, node and control-plane management, networking, add-ons, and resource management.
- Design, build, version, document, and maintain reusable Kustomize configurations, GitLab CI/CD pipeline templates, and Terraform modules for other engineering teams.
- Deliver and continuously reconcile platform infrastructure through GitOps using Flux and enforce cluster guardrails with Kyverno policy-as-code.
- Own platform reliability through monitoring, observability, on-call incident response, root cause analysis, and blameless postmortems.
- Build automation and self-service capabilities that reduce toil and enable teams to deploy safely without manual intervention.
- Administer the software powering the cluster and paved road, troubleshoot distributed systems and network paths, and contribute to code reviews, design reviews, runbooks, and documentation.
- Partner with product managers and engineering teams, take ownership of platform areas end-to-end, and share technical knowledge across the organization.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional experience across software development, infrastructure engineering, and production operations.
- Hands-on production experience operating and administering Kubernetes clusters, including lifecycle management, upgrades, node and control-plane management, RBAC, multi-tenancy, networking, add-ons, controllers, and resource or quota management.
- Experience with GitOps delivery such as Flux or Argo CD, policy-as-code such as Kyverno or OPA/Gatekeeper, reusable Terraform modules, Kustomize configurations, and CI/CD pipeline templates.
- Hands-on AWS and cloud-native infrastructure experience, including VPCs, subnets, and security groups.
- Experience troubleshooting distributed systems and running production systems on call, including incident response, postmortems, and observability.
- Strong proficiency in at least one general-purpose language such as Go, Python, Java, JavaScript, C, C++, or .NET, with openness to learning Go, Java, JavaScript, and Python.
- Familiarity with or willingness to adopt AI-assisted development tools and evaluate their output for reliability, security, and production readiness.
- Strong communication, relationship-building, collaboration, inclusion, and ownership skills.
- U.S. citizenship or nationality, U.S. permanent residency, or lawful admission as a refugee or granted asylum is required.
- Preferred qualifications include multi-cluster or multi-account operations, service mesh experience such as Istio, experience using AI-assisted tools, knowledge sharing through reviews and pairing, and aerospace, manufacturing, or supply chain experience.
