Base Salary

Responsibilities
- Co-lead the Architecture Definition Review of a 35-year-old legacy ground system written in Fortran, Ada, C, and C++.
- Develop and maintain technical architecture documentation and a living knowledge base for long-term system sustainment.
- Mentor software engineers through modernization and platform rehosting efforts.
- Define software development processes, toolchain standards, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Drive agile practices including sprint planning, peer estimation, backlog management, and Definition of Done enforcement.
- Direct AI-assisted code comprehension and documentation workflows using NASA-approved tools.
- Support backend effort estimates based on architecture analysis.
- Coordinate technical progress and formal review gates with NASA task monitors and program leadership.
- Lead software development or architecture teams of five or more engineers in a formal government or DoD/NASA program environment.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field with 10 years of experience, or a master’s degree with 7 years of experience.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance, with proof of citizenship.
- Demonstrated ability to read, analyze, and reverse-engineer legacy code in C, C++, Fortran, Ada, or related languages.
- Experience leading formal architecture reviews of undocumented or minimally documented systems that the candidate did not originally build.
- Hands-on experience with Linux/Unix-based development environments and relational databases such as PostgreSQL or Oracle.
- Proficiency with version control systems such as GitLab or GitHub and CI/CD tools such as GitLab CI or Jenkins.
- Experience with agile or iterative development methodologies, including sprint planning, backlog management, and Definition of Done practices.
- Experience with JIRA or an equivalent agile project tracking tool.
- Experience with formal configuration management, change request processes, and review gates in government or DoD/NASA environments.
- Ability to create and maintain technical documentation for legacy systems with little or no existing documentation.
- Preferred qualifications include NASA ground-system or space-relay experience, AI-assisted code comprehension, Python-based API or RAG code-analysis workflows, Oracle/MSSQL/Postgres experience, legacy-platform migration, MBSE tools such as MagicDraw/Cameo, and Confluence.
