Base Salary
$189k - $278k/yr
Responsibilities
- Serve as a technical lead across multiple Money Group pods and set architectural direction for 15–20 engineers.
- Define technical vision and own projects that advance the group’s long-term architecture.
- Contribute to the architecture connecting Gusto’s People Stack and Finance Stack.
- Lead migration from a Ruby on Rails monolith to a service-oriented architecture across money movement, lending, and tax domains.
- Manage the partner ecosystem and lead technical due diligence for vendor evaluations.
- Build prototypes and proof-of-concepts to de-risk ideas and support product decisions.
- Partner with Product Management, Design, Data Science, Compliance, and Operations on complex technical problems.
- Drive AI-native architecture decisions for transaction categorization, tax optimization, and conversational financial management.
- Provide technical consulting across teams and uphold standards through coding, design reviews, testing, and security practices.
- Mentor engineers and support the development of senior and staff engineers and healthy engineering teams.
Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering experience.
- Deep hands-on experience building financial infrastructure in regulated environments, including account and balance management, money movement, card systems, or lending.
- Proven experience engineering, scaling, and operating large interconnected production systems.
- Experience defining technical vision and leading multi-quarter architectural initiatives across one or more teams.
- Experience owning team-level OKRs and contributing to group-level technical strategy.
- Ability to explain technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders and identify risks and opportunities early.
- Track record of raising technical standards through code quality, design rigor, testing, security practices, and engineering standards.
- Comfort with AI-assisted development tools and staying current with emerging software development approaches.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving environment and move from prototypes to production quickly.
