Base Salary
$210k - $320k/yr
Responsibilities
- Drive architecture, implementation, and evolution of BSPs, hardware abstraction layers, peripheral drivers, and communication stacks.
- Architect and optimize RTOS environments, including task partitioning, scheduling, IPC, memory isolation, and deterministic execution across multi-core systems.
- Enforce MISRA C/C++ compliance and ISO 26262 safety practices while establishing static-analysis baselines, triage workflows, and suppression standards.
- Lead hardware bring-up for new silicon and prototype boards, including system characterization, interrupt-latency analysis, execution profiling, and power/resource budgeting.
- Diagnose complex hardware/software interaction bugs, timing issues, and race conditions using hardware debugging and measurement equipment.
- Own hardware-software interface specifications and coordinate bring-up tooling requirements with hardware, systems engineering, and V&V teams.
- Raise firmware engineering standards and mentor senior- and mid-level engineers.
Requirements
- 10+ years of hands-on embedded software engineering experience delivering production firmware for safety-critical or resource-constrained platforms.
- Expert proficiency in embedded C and modern embedded C++, including memory models, low-level concurrency, compiler optimization, and deterministic execution.
- Production experience architecting, tuning, and debugging multi-threaded software on commercial or open-source RTOS platforms with formal timing analysis and synchronization primitives.
- Extensive experience with Coverity, Polyspace, QAC, or Cppcheck, including ruleset management, complex finding resolution, and defensible suppressions.
- Strong knowledge of MCU/SoC architectures such as ARM Cortex-M/R and TriCore, register-level programming, memory-mapped I/O, and automotive buses.
- Demonstrated leadership of board bring-up in a hardware lab using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and bus analyzers.
- Experience delivering software under ISO 26262, IEC 62304, or DO-178C with strict requirements traceability.
- Proficiency with Git, Bazel or modern build systems, and automated CI/CD pipelines for firmware verification and testing.
- Preferred experience with ISO 14229/UDS, SOME/IP, DoIP, automotive Ethernet, multi-core microcontrollers, Hardware Security Modules, secure boot, protocol state machines, serialization, fault recovery, embedded C++ design patterns, and Python tooling.
Benefits
- Compensation is listed at $210,000-$320,000 per year.
- The role includes work in Sunnyvale labs for hardware bring-up.
- The hiring process includes application review, coding test, two interviews, offer negotiation, and hiring.
- Applications must be submitted as PDF files under 30MB; resume-upload issues may be handled by email.
- The employer encourages applications from U.S. veterans and candidates eligible for employment preference, and provides consideration for qualified individuals with disabilities.
