Base Salary
$190k - $240k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead research and engineering efforts to improve production conversational capabilities, including instruction following, tool calling, retrieval, and memory.
- Investigate speech and audio research questions and design experiments to test model behavior and capabilities.
- Build, train, fine-tune, validate, and iterate on end-to-end models and model pipelines.
- Optimize model architectures and task assignments for quality, efficiency, latency, cost, and user experience.
- Partner with platform and product engineers to integrate new models into production systems.
- Create milestones and roadmaps from ambiguous research ideas and own initiatives through measurable production impact.
- Design evaluation protocols and benchmarks for quality, generalization, robustness, and research progress.
- Analyze datasets, model outputs, and failure cases to guide future model development.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience, including a minimum of 3+ years in AI/ML engineering or research.
- Prior experience post-training and deploying LLMs in production environments.
- Fluency in Python and modern ML tooling for training, evaluation, inference, and data pipelines.
- Demonstrated ability to take research ideas from prototype to reliable, measurable production impact.
- Strong experimental judgment, including hypothesis formulation, baseline development, evaluation design, and careful interpretation of results.
- Bonus: experience utilizing or improving speech-to-text, text-to-speech, and/or duplex models.
- A PhD is not required; demonstrated research ability and the quality of contributed models, experiments, and systems are valued.
