Base Salary
$70k - $170k/yr
Responsibilities
- Contribute to Automattic’s product ecosystem, including WordPress, WooCommerce, Gutenberg, and Tumblr
- Build useful, high-quality software for a diverse global user base
- Debug complex technical problems and consider the cost and value of abstractions
- Work on backend, performance, or large-scale product challenges as appropriate
- Collaborate through peer code review and distributed communication channels
- Support Automattic’s open-source development practices and frequent deployment cadence
Requirements
- Production experience with several programming languages, frameworks, and paradigms
- Comfort with becoming an expert in PHP and JavaScript, although prior expertise in both is not required
- Experience working at scale, either on backend and performance challenges or with a multi-million-user product
- Strong debugging ability and attention to software quality and detail
- Ability to understand abstraction layers above and below the area of work
- Willingness and ability to travel 3–4 weeks per year for in-person team meetups
