Base Salary

Responsibilities
- Design, build, test, monitor, and operate backend services and APIs for the Heartflow clinical platform.
- Translate product and clinical requirements into technical designs and communicate trade-offs involving correctness, performance, security, and maintainability.
- Build and improve services and data pipelines that reliably and securely process patient imaging data and analysis results at scale.
- Implement authentication, authorization, access control, and data-integrity patterns aligned with security architecture standards.
- Own system reliability and performance through instrumentation, monitoring, alerting, production investigation, and on-call participation.
- Contribute to infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD pipelines, and developer tooling.
- Produce design, verification, and traceability documentation for FDA-regulated medical software and support HIPAA-compliant handling of patient data.
- Mentor engineers through code reviews, pairing, design feedback, and onboarding.
- Use AI coding assistants or agents in production work and verify their output carefully.
- Partner with Product, Clinical, Operations, and Regulatory stakeholders to scope work and communicate technical trade-offs.
- At Staff level, lead technical initiatives across multiple services and teams, manage dependencies and risks, and establish engineering practices and architecture patterns.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience for Senior candidates or 10+ years with demonstrated technical leadership beyond a single team for Staff candidates.
- Strong backend programming skills in Python or Java, including object-oriented programming, data modeling, concurrency, and API design.
- Hands-on experience building and operating services on AWS and working with SQL and NoSQL data stores.
- Experience designing, shipping, and operating production services in distributed or microservices architectures.
- Experience owning a meaningful service or component end to end, including production reliability and performance.
- A disciplined approach to automated testing, code review, debugging, Agile development, and project management tools.
- Working knowledge of web and OWASP security best practices.
- Experience with AWS Lambda, ECS, EKS, Fargate, S3, SQS, VPC, infrastructure-as-code tooling such as Terraform and CDK, CI/CD, and observability.
- Clear written and verbal communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively.
- Preferred experience with DICOM, HL7, FHIR, PHI-handling systems, Django and the Django ORM, regulated or safety-critical software, or multi-team technical leadership.
Benefits
- Hybrid work arrangement, indicated by the #LI-Hybrid designation.
- Base salary range of $180,000–$215,000 for Senior level or $190,000–$250,000 for Staff level, plus bonus and equity.
