Responsibilities
- Lead the architectural evolution of core storage engine components and resolve performance bottlenecks in indexing layouts, serialization formats, and resource utilization.
- Lead cross-organizational initiatives for observability solutions and work with engineers on Elasticsearch logs and metrics capabilities.
- Drive operational and system improvements, coding standards, and architectural clarity across the platform.
- Act as a subject matter expert and trusted technical advisor while mentoring the broader engineering organization.
- Triage, resolve, and review issues and pull requests with global teams and domain experts.
- Write idiomatic modern Java for Elasticsearch.
Requirements
- Strong core Java skills, including deep knowledge of concurrency primitives, data structures, and algorithms.
- Proven experience designing high-performance, scalable database or search engine technologies.
- Experience implementing efficient indexing, storage, and querying techniques for time-series or logs data.
- Experience with one or more data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Prometheus.
- Ability to lead technical initiatives across organizations, drive decisions autonomously, and collaborate across teams and codebases.
- Experience using AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code while validating results with sound engineering judgment.
- Strong communication, collaboration, mentoring, and technical discussion skills.
- Preferred experience building with Elasticsearch, contributing to open source projects, working with data storage technology, leading cross-functional initiatives, or developing databases, search engines, operating systems, or cloud services.
