Responsibilities
- Design, implement, operate, and continuously improve enterprise backup solutions and platform capabilities.
- Provide Level 3 technical expertise for IBM Storage Protect, Veeam, and DataDomain infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot complex incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and eliminate recurring problems.
- Own backup service reliability, availability, performance, capacity, and compliance with defined SLAs and SLOs.
- Implement monitoring, alerting, and observability for backup service health and performance.
- Automate provisioning, configuration, and operational activities using Terraform, Ansible, scripting, or similar technologies.
- Develop self-service and standardized backup and recovery solutions to reduce manual work.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, application, database, and cloud teams on backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Advise the Product Owner, challenge existing solutions, and drive informed technical decisions and engineering standards.
- Evaluate technical debt and emerging technologies and recommend improvements to reliability, efficiency, and scalability.
- Participate in disaster recovery planning, backup recovery exercises, resilience testing, and on-call support.
- Maintain standards, reusable patterns, runbooks, recovery procedures, and other technical documentation.
- Contribute to SRE practices including incident management, problem management, capacity planning, observability, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of recent active experience managing enterprise backup solutions such as IBM Storage Protect, Veeam, and DataDomain, or similar technologies.
- Strong knowledge of backup, restore, recovery, retention, replication, backup policies, and disaster recovery concepts.
- Hands-on experience with enterprise infrastructure and troubleshooting complex backup environments.
- Recent experience with infrastructure automation and configuration management; Terraform and/or Ansible is advantageous.
- Recent scripting or programming experience for automation, preferably with Python, PowerShell, or similar technologies.
- Understanding of monitoring and observability concepts and experience with monitoring or logging platforms.
- Understanding of SRE and DevOps principles and willingness to apply them to backup infrastructure.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, collaboration, ownership, and root-cause-analysis skills.
