Base Salary
$228k - $339k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own the architecture and technical implementation of the StorageGRID S3 data path, including request processing, metadata storage, replication, and erasure-coded data flows.
- Lead performance analysis and benchmarking, identify bottlenecks, and deliver performance improvements.
- Design for multi-site, cross-grid replication and globally federated namespaces across hundreds of nodes and exabytes of capacity.
- Drive cross-cutting data path initiatives from architecture through implementation, validation, and release readiness.
- Remain hands-on with code, complex bugs, technical designs, reviews, root-cause analysis, and engineering standards.
- Set technical direction for StorageGRID data path engineering and align architecture across teams.
- Mentor Senior and Member of Technical Staff engineers on data path internals, performance optimization, distributed-systems design, and debugging.
- Collaborate with quality engineering, product management, supportability, support, and field teams to translate customer needs into improvements.
Requirements
- 12+ years of experience in systems, storage, distributed systems, or performance engineering with a record of technical leadership.
- Strong hands-on programming skills in one or more of C, C++, Go, or Python, plus experience debugging distributed software in Linux environments.
- Experience building or owning an object storage system, S3 implementation, or large-scale distributed storage or database product.
- Experience with request data paths, data placement, replication or erasure coding, consistency, and failure handling.
- Experience with Apache Cassandra or a comparable distributed database at scale.
- Ability to influence technical direction across teams without direct authority.
- Preferred experience with S3 protocol semantics such as multipart operations, versioning, and Object Lock/WORM.
- Preferred experience with load balancing, networking, NVMe, SSD, HDD, and x86 hardware.
- Preferred experience with AI-assisted development and observability tooling for analysis, debugging, testing, and documentation.
