
Senior Software Engineer II, Managed Databases

Base Salary
$167k - $209k/yr
Responsibilities
- Architect and implement scalable control-plane and infrastructure components for managed database workloads.
- Translate customer and system requirements into technical designs and deliverable workstreams.
- Improve resource utilization, fault tolerance, availability, and performance under production load.
- Develop automated failover, continuous backups, point-in-time recovery, and maintenance capabilities.
- Scale platform infrastructure for data-intensive and AI inference-adjacent workloads.
- Lead cross-team technical projects and guide design and code reviews.
- Mentor engineers and raise engineering and code-quality standards.
- Establish observability, failover, and recovery practices; participate in on-call and apply incident learnings.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems or data-plane/control-plane infrastructure.
- Proven ability to diagnose and solve complex, high-concurrency engineering problems in production cloud environments.
- Working knowledge of PostgreSQL and/or MySQL engine internals, including query performance, replication, and scaling preferred.
- Strong understanding of concurrency, failure modes, multi-region systems, and performance optimization in Linux and cloud environments.
- Experience scaling services for compute, memory, and networking demands of data-intensive or AI inference-adjacent workloads preferred.
- Track record of leading complex cross-team technical projects, mentoring engineers, and communicating tradeoffs clearly.
- Ability to work independently through ambiguous problems from design and implementation through launch and long-term operation.
