Responsibilities
- Build and evolve paved paths and self-service developer tooling.
- Create and support CI/CD pipelines, build tooling, and artifact repositories.
- Own and improve backend and frontend developer experience.
- Steward Flexport’s GraphQL and gRPC ecosystem, including middleware, federation, schema sharing, CLIs, code generation, servers, and clients.
- Evolve and integrate IAM solutions and primitives so systems are secure by default.
- Improve developer use of Kubernetes, ECS, OpenMetrics, and Datadog for operating and debugging services.
- Research developer needs, ship platform improvements through production rollout, and measure their impact.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, including experience building developer platforms or internal tooling used by other engineers.
- Full-stack comfort across backend services, frontend build pipelines, Kubernetes manifests, and CI configuration.
- Hands-on expertise with several CI/CD systems, container orchestrators, multi-language build tooling, backend-for-frontend systems, service-to-service communication, metrics, and artifact storage.
- Strong internal product instincts, including the ability to identify valuable improvements for engineers and measure outcomes.
- Experience solving technical debt, fixing broken systems, executing migrations, and working independently in ambiguous environments.
- Excellent communication skills, including running developer interviews and writing clear design documents.
- Preferred experience with data-driven developer experience development using DORA metrics, AWS, IAM at scale, JWTs, OIDC, fine-grained authorization, and Terraform.
