Responsibilities

  • Develop and operate CERN’s next-generation machine learning platform.
  • Support model training, hyper-parameter optimization, model serving, deployment, observability, lifecycle management, and versioning.
  • Manage and integrate on-premises, cloud, and HPC resources and optimize CPU/GPU/RAM affinity and inference workloads.
  • Extend cloud-native infrastructure for workload scheduling, system monitoring, accounting, and cost control.
  • Produce reference architectures, documentation, and best practices for CERN users and use cases.
  • Collaborate with IT groups, other CERN departments, and external research and industry organizations.
  • Work nights, Sundays, and official holidays when required by organizational needs.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or equivalent relevant experience in computing engineering or a related field.
  • Knowledge of machine learning systems and ideally hands-on experience deploying and operating ML services in production.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, containerization, CI/CD, observability, and model lifecycle management.
  • Experience with GPUs or other accelerator platforms, including performance tuning and inference workload optimization.
  • Familiarity with open-source ecosystems and willingness to contribute to and evaluate upstream projects.
  • Knowledge of operating systems, system configuration tools, ICT system architecture and design, emerging ICT technologies, and software lifecycle tools and procedures.
  • Fluent spoken and written English and commitment to learn French.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, solve complex problems, take initiative, and build relationships.
