Base Salary
$155k - $225k/yr
Responsibilities
- Partner with Product and Design to define and prioritize the Applied AI roadmap and turn ambiguous goals into shippable agent capabilities
- Design and build permission-aware MCP tools that expose Fora data and services with appropriate guardrails
- Build and harden agent orchestration, including tool-calling loops, streaming responses, multi-step workflows, retries, guardrails, and service contracts
- Design evaluations, regression suites, tracing, logging, and event metrics to improve reliability and detect tool-call drift
- Improve system performance, latency, architecture, and code quality
- Collaborate on end-to-end solutions spanning AI services, the core Django platform, and the portal frontend
- Own features from design through implementation, delivery, and continued improvement
- Establish Applied AI patterns, primitives, and best practices as the team grows
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
- At least 5 years of backend web development experience
- At least 3 years of Python experience using Django, Flask, or an alternative framework
- Strong API and distributed-systems design skills with solid relational database and ORM fundamentals
- Curiosity about applied AI and the ability to stay current with evolving models and frameworks
- Strong communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills
- Comfort with ambiguity, entrepreneurial work, and fast iteration
- Preferred hands-on experience shipping production LLM features such as MCP tools, agentic loops, structured outputs, streaming, prompt design, retrieval, and evaluations
- Preferred familiarity with MCP, LLM provider SDKs such as Anthropic and OpenAI, and agent or evaluation frameworks
- Preferred experience designing evaluations and observability for non-deterministic AI systems
- Preferred daily use of AI coding tools
- Preferred experience with async task and streaming infrastructure such as Celery or RabbitMQ
- AWS experience preferred
- Kubernetes experience preferred
- Authorization to work in the United States is required for full-time roles based in the New York City office; Fora does not sponsor work authorization
