Responsibilities
- Make defensible technical and architectural decisions, including clearly explaining alternatives that were rejected.
- Design systems with broader architecture, failure propagation, load behavior, reliability, auditability, and regulatory controls in mind.
- Connect technical choices to business outcomes and right-size solutions to the value of the problem.
- Build and operate systems with demanding reliability and performance requirements at scale.
- Mentor engineers, raise the technical bar, and improve engineering practices across teams.
- Move initiatives forward across multiple teams without formal authority.
- Set standards for practical, everyday use of AI within the engineering domain.
Requirements
- Experience building and operating reliable, high-performance systems at scale, ideally in Java, JavaScript, or Python environments.
- Ability to make and articulate technical trade-offs, including the reasoning behind rejected alternatives.
- Ability to prioritize business outcomes over unnecessary engineering complexity.
- Ability to communicate complex systems clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience leading through technical work, mentoring others, and influencing teams without formal authority.
- Comfort working through ambiguity and learning from production incidents and failed designs.
- A distinctive capability or area of expertise that expands what the organization can build.
