Base Salary

$213k - $263k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Build scalable systems for training and fine-tuning large-scale models that evaluate driving behaviors.
  • Design and scale distributed systems for dataset generation, model training, and evaluation across the ML lifecycle.
  • Contribute to production and optimization of machine learning models assessing Waymo’s vehicle fleet.
  • Provide guidance on architecture and technical direction while owning large, complex systems.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to translate product and business goals into measurable technical deliverables.

Requirements

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience developing, designing, scaling, training, deploying, and optimizing large-scale machine learning systems.
  • Experience contributing to machine learning tooling and frameworks such as PyTorch, JAX, TensorFlow, Ray, or similar.
  • Strong expertise in distributed training techniques, including gradient sharding and optimization strategies for scaling large models.
  • Experience with ML accelerator profiling tools to identify performance bottlenecks.
  • Preferred: 7+ years of machine learning infrastructure experience.
  • Preferred: experience in autonomous vehicles, robotics, or complex simulation environments.
  • Preferred: familiarity with large-scale simulation platforms and their integration with ML training workflows.
