Base Salary
$180k - $250k/yr
Responsibilities
- Ship impactful end-to-end product features for student and teacher experiences.
- Own and improve backend systems, infrastructure, performance, scalability, reliability, security, and incident response.
- Set technical direction and translate business goals into pragmatic technical plans.
- Improve code quality, observability, CI/CD, deployment practices, and developer tooling.
- Design APIs, operate production systems, and work with relational databases.
- Participate in prototyping, testing, rollout, and ongoing product support.
- Provide technical leadership through design discussions, code reviews, and mentorship.
- Partner with product managers and designers on user experience, interaction design, and execution.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, or equivalent technical experience.
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong backend experience with Kotlin, Python, Go, Rust, or Scala, with willingness to learn Kira’s Kotlin and Python stack.
- Hands-on experience operating production systems and cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS.
- Experience designing APIs, working with relational databases such as MySQL, and shipping complex systems.
- At least 2 years of experience mentoring and/or managing junior and mid-level engineers.
- Familiarity with automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and reliable deployment practices.
- Ability to make technical decisions and execute with minimal guidance in ambiguous environments.
- Clear written and verbal communication across technical and non-technical audiences.
- Preferred: extensive experience contributing to frontend codebases such as React and TypeScript.
- Preferred: experience integrating LLM-backed services, including API usage, evaluation, and operational considerations.
