Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain full-stack platform features using React and Node.js/MongoDB.
- Build moderation, anti-abuse, support, and safety systems with attention to privacy, cost, usability, and scalability.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, operations, legal, policy, and engineering partners to translate product direction into functional software.
- Contribute across the feature lifecycle from concept and prototyping through deployment, maintenance, and post-launch iteration.
- Maintain the reliability, stability, performance, and usability of critical moderation and safety services, including participation in on-call rotations.
- Participate in code reviews and help maintain architectural integrity, performance, reliability, and code quality.
Requirements
- Professional experience building and maintaining web applications, preferably in social or gaming contexts.
- Proficiency with the MERN stack and related technologies such as Redis.
- Experience building scalable web applications and APIs.
- Experience building usable, responsive React frontends using CSS or similar technologies.
- Experience with database design and optimization, state management, and third-party integrations.
- Familiarity with version control systems and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with observability, on-call operations, incident response, and production reliability practices.
- Ability to design systems for adversarial users, abuse vectors, false-positive costs, and graceful degradation.
- Experience handling sensitive user data with appropriate privacy and access controls.
- Ability to collaborate with non-engineering partners and work effectively in a remote, cross-functional environment.
- Demonstrated interest in online communities, VR, or VRChat.
- Bonus: experience with Unity/C#, ML-adjacent systems, moderation or Trust and Safety teams, AWS or GCP, Docker, and Kubernetes.
