Responsibilities
- Help teams make, test, document, and improve architectural decisions and ADRs.
- Contribute to the weekly architecture advisory forum and connect related decisions across repositories and teams.
- Identify and guide cross-cutting concerns including contracts, versioning, identity, permissions, tenancy, data isolation, observability, and migration sequencing.
- Write and ship production code, build reference implementations, prototype and research architectural directions, and resolve complex diagnostic issues.
- Work across backend services, event pipelines, web and mobile clients, data systems, cloud infrastructure, and delivery pipelines.
- Partner with engineering leaders, product teams, delivery teams, customers, and integration partners on deployment architecture, security, integration, performance, and operational constraints.
- Support incremental migration from legacy systems and help other engineers develop architectural judgment.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional experience, with substantial experience building and running production software at senior, staff, or principal responsibility levels.
- Track record of owning work end to end from design through shipped and operated production code.
- Depth in multiple layers of the stack, including backend services, data modeling and persistence, web or mobile client architecture, cloud infrastructure, and delivery pipelines.
- Experience with event-driven or event-sourced systems, explicit domain modeling, and architecture enforced through tests or tooling.
- Experience evolving versioned public APIs, SDKs, plugin platforms, or extension platforms without breaking dependent users.
- Familiarity with distributed data, replication, consistency levels, event ordering, versioning, multi-region systems, and failure analysis.
- Experience with incremental migration, coexistence, and deprecation in large long-lived systems with active customers.
- Strong technical writing skills, including design documents, ADRs, and RFCs.
- Practical experience using AI-assisted engineering tools such as Claude Code, Cowork, or Copilot, along with dependable evaluation workflows.
- Ability to work effectively across time zones and distributed teams.
- Preferred experience includes retail, point-of-sale, omnichannel commerce, telecom retail, payments and compliance, extension platforms, multi-tenant SaaS, or major product replatforming.
