Principal Software Engineer, AI SIEM

Responsibilities
- Build a system-wide mental model spanning data ingest and storage, query and retrieval, analyst workflows, and detection engines.
- Drive architectural decisions across the data platform, analyst experience, and detection engine pillars.
- Partner with engineering leads as a peer thought partner and influence through technical reasoning.
- Identify and prioritize cross-system architectural investments for engineering leadership and product.
- Prototype, review, and occasionally build connective components between system pillars.
- Establish technical standards for APIs, data contracts, and service boundaries.
- Mentor senior and staff engineers across teams.
- Represent overall system health in planning and leadership discussions.
Requirements
- 15 or more years of experience building and operating large-scale distributed backend systems.
- Direct experience in at least two of high-throughput data ingest/storage, query engines, or detection/rules systems.
- Demonstrated ability to reason at the architecture level and identify incorrect boundaries, overlapping responsibilities, and system gaps.
- Experience designing APIs and service contracts across teams and over multiple years.
- Ability to influence peer teams and senior engineers without a single clear chain of command.
- A four-year degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
- Familiarity with security operations concepts such as alerts, findings, assets, incidents, and detection rules is preferred.
- Experience with modern cloud infrastructure and data-intensive systems, including distributed storage, high-cardinality querying, and streaming pipelines, is preferred.
- Exposure to rule-based and ML/AI-driven detection approaches is a plus.
