Responsibilities
- Own the architecture of shared backend systems, including core services, data models, APIs, and cross-product infrastructure.
- Define and drive long-term backend architecture strategy across the organization.
- Design, build, and ship backend services and APIs for AI-native product features at scale.
- Design for scalability, reliability, and evolvability, and lead high-stakes technical decisions and design reviews.
- Establish backend engineering standards, patterns, and best practices across product teams.
- Partner with Product and AI/ML teams to turn product and model requirements into production systems.
- Improve the performance, reliability, and observability of backend infrastructure.
- Debug and resolve production issues.
- Use modern AI development tools and support end-to-end product development when needed.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of professional backend software engineering experience.
- Strong expertise in API design, data modeling, distributed systems, databases, and large-scale APIs.
- Experience owning architecture across multiple teams or an entire organization and making durable technical decisions.
- Capability with React and TypeScript and willingness to work from the user interface through the backend when needed.
- Experience building or integrating AI/LLM-powered features and agent designs.
- Daily fluency with modern AI development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar.
- Ability to communicate complex technical tradeoffs to engineers and leadership.
- Product-minded approach, comfort with ambiguity, high ownership, pragmatism, and a bias toward shipping.
- Startup or founder experience is preferred.
- Experience building consumer-facing products at scale is preferred.
- ML and deep learning knowledge and experience are preferred.
