Responsibilities
- Define the technical architecture, roadmap, interfaces, output representations, and tools for Wayve’s offline 3D reconstruction system.
- Lead MVP development and guide the transition from prototypes to a robust internal platform.
- Develop strategies and standards for reconstruction quality, failure analysis, uncertainty measurement, and dataset suitability.
- Partner with calibration, sensor fusion, perception, data, infrastructure, and validation teams on requirements and ownership.
- Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership for the 3D reconstruction effort.
- Communicate technical tradeoffs, limitations, progress, confidence, and failure modes to technical leaders and cross-functional stakeholders.
Requirements
- Deep expertise in SLAM, 3D reconstruction, mapping, state estimation, or related robotics and perception fields.
- Hands-on experience with lidar-based reconstruction, point-cloud registration, pose estimation, and real-world robotics sensor data.
- Experience building offline reconstruction, mapping, or perception systems for large volumes of sensor data.
- Strong software engineering skills in C++, Python, or similar robotics and perception environments.
- Experience turning research or prototype algorithms into reliable production systems.
- Experience defining technical strategy, roadmaps, and milestones in ambiguous problem spaces.
- Strong cross-functional technical leadership and communication skills.
- Systems-level understanding of sensor calibration, timing, synchronization, and data-quality issues.
- MS or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, State Estimation, Sensor Fusion, SLAM, 3D Reconstruction, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience, is desired.
- Preferred experience includes autonomous vehicles, robotics, mapping, ground-truth data pipelines, GNSS/INS fusion, sensor-based odometry, nonlinear optimization, machine learning for 3D reconstruction, ML data enrichment, quality metrics, and leading expert technical teams.
