Base Salary
$100k - $198k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and build tools that define, store, and provide variant-, sample-, and test-level information for variant interpretation and report generation.
- Develop and maintain systems that translate raw bioinformatic data into normalized variant and sample information, registration data, observation groups, and quality metrics.
- Scale and optimize storage for growing sample-level data needs.
- Source, maintain, and provide variant-level annotations for accurate interpretation.
- Automate evidence placement and variant classification workflows.
- Support test content and assay development initiatives.
- Collaborate with data scientists, variant scientists, and software developers to implement stakeholder solutions.
- Own multi-year product or platform goals across teams and define technical vision and approaches for large, business-impacting projects.
- Mentor engineers, influence partner-team roadmaps, and serve as a technical authority across multiple teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and 10 or more years of recent professional software development experience.
- 10 or more years of experience with Python, relational databases, web development frameworks, front-end technologies, RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and cloud platforms.
- Preferred: Master's degree or Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computational biology, or life sciences.
- Preferred: 8 or more years mentoring and developing engineers across multiple teams and defining technical vision and multi-year roadmaps.
- Preferred: 3 or more years with bioinformatic tools and annotation, variant databases and genomic data resources, biomedical terminologies, or scientific information solutions.
- Preferred: 3 or more years with Spark, text mining, natural language processing, semantic enrichment, ontologies, data mining, or machine learning/AI.
- Experience with GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or similar LLM tools is expected.
- Strong verbal and written communication with scientific and non-scientific audiences is required.

- Employees within 35 miles of Burlington or Durham, North Carolina follow a hybrid schedule requiring at least three in-office days per week.
- The position is eligible for an annual bonus under the Labcorp Bonus Plan, subject to corporate or business-segment performance and individual performance modifiers.
