Base Salary
$173k - $286k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own Android accessibility across Slack, including Slack Kit Compose components, platform-wide screen-reader support, testing, and compliance strategy.
- Audit and fix accessibility issues in Slack Kit components and build or maintain snapshot and automated accessibility testing.
- Diagnose TalkBack and Android framework issues and generalize fixes into reusable shared utilities.
- Own Android accessibility test suites and infrastructure, including custom tooling and third-party integrations for automated UI-test coverage.
- Advise feature teams on complex accessibility requirements such as labeling, focus order, state announcements, and audible feedback.
- Lead VPAT compliance work by triaging tickets, organizing recurring issues into epics, and documenting Slack’s compliance posture.
- Plan accessibility testing for major features and partner with QA vendors on regression testing.
- Coordinate Android accessibility planning with iOS, design systems, and feature teams.
- Mentor Android engineers, conduct onboarding sessions, and share accessibility knowledge through documentation, newsletters, and external talks.
Requirements
- 5+ years of Android engineering experience in a team environment, including Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
- Hands-on expertise with Android accessibility APIs and TalkBack behavior.
- Experience building or maintaining accessibility testing infrastructure.
- Familiarity with accessibility compliance frameworks such as WCAG and VPAT, with experience driving compliance work end-to-end.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with design systems, iOS, and feature teams.
- Experience with design systems or component libraries and accessibility standards is preferred.
- Familiarity with third-party accessibility auditing tools or custom static-analysis/scanning tools is preferred.
- Public speaking or writing about accessibility topics is preferred.
