Responsibilities
- Analyze and optimize the performance of the core ClickHouse database, including query optimization, distributed query optimization, relational operators, caching, and SIMD-level optimizations.
- Extend and create performance tests using real-world and synthetic datasets to prevent database performance regressions.
- Help Support Engineering debug advanced customer performance issues.
- Collaborate with core engineering teams to assess feature performance impacts and provide testing and performance guidance.
- Resolve issues, review and finish pull requests, and answer questions across open-source community channels.
Requirements
- Solid professional software development experience in C++.
- Experience with Unix systems.
- Strong knowledge of database internals and design.
- Experience in performance engineering, ideally with databases or alternatively in areas such as high-frequency trading, simulation, or real-time data processing.
- Strong production debugging and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering teams and participate thoughtfully in code reviews and open-source community interactions.
- Bonus: ClickHouse experience; security, privacy, and compliance experience; TCP/IP and network programming; cloud infrastructure services, preferably Kubernetes; public technical talks; or prior open-source contributions.
