Responsibilities
- Build and maintain reliable JVM-based services using Kotlin or modern Java.
- Design, develop, document, and maintain APIs and integrations.
- Deliver end-to-end features connecting backend services and data with responsive React and TypeScript interfaces.
- Write effective automated tests using test-first and test-informed practices.
- Contribute to event-driven workflows, asynchronous processing, technical discovery, architecture discussions, and peer code reviews.
- Improve build, test, and deployment pipelines and support software in production.
- Implement structured logging, metrics, and distributed tracing to improve operability and troubleshooting.
- Identify and address technical debt, performance issues, reliability risks, and governance or security implications.
- Experiment with AI-assisted engineering tools and validate their outputs for correctness, security, maintainability, and suitability.
- Support other engineers, share knowledge, and contribute to collective code ownership and a collaborative team culture.
- Work with product, design, delivery, engineering, architecture, and potentially client stakeholders to shape and deliver technical solutions.
Requirements
- Strong commercial experience developing server-side applications with Kotlin or modern Java, ideally Java 17 or later.
- Good knowledge of the JVM ecosystem and backend development practices.
- Experience designing, building, and operating APIs.
- Understanding of service reliability, maintainability, performance, and security.
- Proven experience writing effective automated tests and practical experience with relational databases.
- Experience with modern frontend development, ideally React and TypeScript.
- Familiarity with CI/CD practices and supporting software in production.
- Experience working collaboratively in an agile, product-focused engineering team.
- Curiosity about AI-augmented engineering and willingness to develop new ways of working.
- Desirable experience with AI-assisted development tools, asynchronous and event-driven architectures, Spring Boot, Quarkus, Micronaut, Ktor, AWS, Azure, GCP, containers, shared platforms, RESTful API design, observable systems, regulated or financial-services environments, payments, or transaction processing.
- Equivalent experience with comparable technologies will be considered.
