Responsibilities
- Define and lead the strategic direction, architecture, and standards for AI engineering across Axos Bank.
- Design enterprise-scale agentic systems, domain-specific agents, and integration patterns.
- Establish best practices for prompt engineering, LLM integration, and agentic workflow design.
- Lead sophisticated integrations with internal platforms and direct implementation of Model Context Protocol servers.
- Own the strategic AI skills and plugin platform and drive organizational adoption and quality.
- Define AI quality metrics, testing strategies, governance frameworks, and continuous improvement processes.
- Lead ROI measurement, business impact analysis, executive communications, and business-case development for AI initiatives.
- Identify and implement AI automation opportunities and organizational workflows across functions.
- Mentor senior AI engineers and shape their technical growth and leadership capabilities.
- Establish responsible AI, ethical, security, prompt-injection mitigation, and enterprise guardrail practices.
- Lead architecture reviews, architectural trade-off decisions, discovery, requirements, and feasibility validation.
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional experience in software engineering and/or AI/ML engineering.
- 3+ years leading technical teams or shaping organizational technical strategy.
- Demonstrated expertise designing and deploying production AI systems at scale.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated expertise at a strategic level.
- 4+ years of hands-on experience with large language models, prompt engineering, and agentic systems in production is preferred.
- Proven experience designing and deploying enterprise-scale AI platforms and agent networks.
- Expert-level proficiency in Python and JavaScript and deep knowledge of software architecture and design patterns.
- Experience with enterprise API ecosystems and REST, GraphQL, and gRPC integrations.
- Leadership experience building and scaling AI/ML teams, including talent development and mentorship.
- Deep expertise in automated testing, quality frameworks, engineering culture, and responsible AI governance.
- Strategic experience in financial services, banking, fintech, or other heavily regulated industries is preferred.
- Advanced experience with Qdrant and vector database architecture for enterprise scale.
- Deep expertise in Databricks and enterprise data engineering, including data and AI solution architecture.
- Published AI engineering, LLM, or agentic-systems thought leadership or conference presentations are preferred.
