Responsibilities
- Support DevOps and platform engineering projects involving containerization, deployment automation, Kubernetes, web services, infrastructure automation, and production software operations.
- Learn and apply Git version control, containerization, pipeline development, and Kubernetes-based application deployment.
- Assist with deploying and testing large language models and persistent data services.
- Develop or enhance automation tools, deployment workflows, monitoring practices, and operational documentation.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, documentation, research planning, evaluation discussions, and other software development lifecycle activities.
- Attend at least one relevant seminar per week and present work through presentations or poster sessions.
Requirements
- Be a continuing college or university student in good standing at an accredited institution pursuing an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, Machine Learning, Cybersecurity, or a related STEM field.
- Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and be at least 18 years old at the start of the internship.
- Be eligible to access the laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the National Defense Authorization Act.
- Demonstrate basic computational science or mathematical problem-solving ability, effective communication and presentation skills, teamwork, resilience, and adaptability.
- Have experience working with personal computers and familiarity with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- External applicants selected for the position must pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.
Benefits
- Hourly pay ranges from $23.26 to $31.62 for level 705.1 or $26.22 to $33.38 for level 714.0, with step placement based on the most recently completed academic year.
- Internship dates are one of May 17-August 6, May 24-August 13, June 14-September 3, or June 21-September 10, 2027.
- Depending on the assignment, the position may offer a hybrid schedule with one or more work-from-home days per week.
- Benefits include holiday pay, sick leave accrual, and individual 401(k) contributions.
- No security clearance is required, though assignments longer than 179 cumulative days in a calendar year require Personal Identity Verification and background-check approval.
