Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the long-term technical and product-facing vision for data protection across the Clumio platform.
  • Own architectural integrity for backup, recovery, replication, policy enforcement, metadata integrity, and failure handling across multiple cloud environments.
  • Lead complex, high-risk, and ambiguous initiatives from problem definition through production delivery.
  • Design systems with provable correctness and rigorously analyze failure modes and recovery paths.
  • Shape roadmaps, sequence major initiatives, and align technical investments with long-term product goals.
  • Set technical standards for durability, security, and recoverability at scale.
  • Mentor Principal Engineers and senior technical leaders and guide teams through ambiguous design spaces.
  • Serve as the escalation point for critical architectural and product-impacting decisions.
  • Partner with Product, Customer Success, Security, Compliance, and executive leadership on customer requirements, regulatory obligations, and operational realities.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant ownership of complex production systems.
  • Experience leading ambiguous, high-impact technical initiatives from problem definition through production delivery.
  • Ability to translate business, customer, and operational needs into technical requirements and system designs.
  • Deep experience designing and evolving distributed or cloud-native systems focused on correctness, operability, and cost efficiency.
  • Ability to make and drive critical technical decisions with broad system impact and communicate trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of English.
  • Preferred experience as a senior technical owner while remaining hands-on.
  • Preferred experience designing systems spanning multiple services or cloud environments and defining common abstractions and patterns.
  • Familiarity with AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Background in data management, backup and recovery, disaster recovery, or related data protection domains.
  • Understanding of secure system design, including authorization, encryption, and secure handling of sensitive data.
  • Experience mentoring senior engineers and shaping technical direction with engineering and product leadership.
