Responsibilities

  • Own the technical outcome of a value-stream pod from problem shaping through production operation.
  • Partner with business transformation leadership, examiners, nurse reviewers, and operations to shape problems, define scope, and establish non-goals.
  • Architect and personally build production Generative AI agents, workflows, and applications using Python and React.
  • Set engineering standards for API-first and contract-first delivery, AWS and Terraform production paths, GitHub Actions, evaluation, observability, and human confirmation for consequential claims actions.
  • Ensure capabilities land on shared substrate rather than becoming duplicate builds, exercising design-council stewardship and authority.
  • Define technical interface terms, repositories, contracts, and definitions of done with vendor delivery teams.
  • Establish evaluation, provenance, autonomy-ladder, failure-handling, and human-review evidence for AI workflows.
  • Lead technical solution design, architectural review, complex troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and performance optimization for business-critical AI services and platforms.
  • Represent the pod on the AI Engineering design council and resolve technical conflicts with enterprise standards.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to Senior and Junior AI Engineers while remaining a peer individual contributor.
  • Evaluate whether capabilities should be built in-house, co-developed with a vendor, or not built, including ownership and removal paths.
  • Travel as required, including regular on-site work with claims or Managed Care operations and vendor delivery teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • 10 or more years of software engineering experience, including at least 4 years owning production Generative AI or applied-AI systems in the field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Hands-on production experience with AWS, Python, React, GitHub Actions, and Terraform sufficient to set engineering standards and review others’ work.
  • Strong full-stack engineering skills in Python and React, with strong SQL, APIs, and service design experience.
  • Production command of Generative AI agents, workflows, and applications, including tool use, orchestration, evaluation, provenance, and human-in-the-loop patterns.
  • Experience leading technical delivery for a value stream or equivalent without people-management authority.
  • Experience with AWS identity, networking, environments, and operational recovery.
  • Ability to shape problems with operations leaders, maintain shared technical substrate, stop duplicate builds, and set interface terms with vendors and platform teams.
  • Strong mentoring, collaboration, technical communication, troubleshooting, problem-solving, judgment, and analytical skills.
  • Experience in insurance, claims, healthcare, or another heavily regulated operational domain is preferred.
  • Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience with machine learning, model fine-tuning, or graph databases such as Neo4j is preferred.
  • Experience with PydanticAI or an equivalent agent framework, agent observability, and AI Ops or LLMOps is a plus.

Benefits

  • Remote role open to all U.S. states.
  • Regular on-site work and travel are required when applicable, including work with claims or Managed Care operations and vendor delivery teams.
  • Sedgwick offers a caring culture and work-life balance.
