Responsibilities
- Own the strategy, architecture, and implementation of applied AI and ML solutions across mental healthcare products.
- Build and optimize search ranking, relevance, retrieval, recommendation, personalization, and patient-provider matching systems at scale.
- Develop and fine-tune Learning-to-Rank models, embeddings, recommendation algorithms, and LLM-powered applications.
- Apply NLP and generative AI to clinical workflows and patient engagement.
- Design product-facing AI architectures, core ML infrastructure, data pipelines, and rigorous evaluation systems.
- Set technical standards for AI safety, responsible deployment, and machine learning in a high-stakes clinical environment.
- Unblock complex engineering problems and provide technical leadership and mentorship across product and AI/ML engineering teams.
Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 7+ years designing and scaling distributed systems and 5+ years building and deploying production-grade ML applications.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience building and optimizing search, ranking, relevance, or recommendation engines at scale.
- 5+ years of strong Python programming experience plus at least one backend language, preferably TypeScript, Java, or Go.
- 2+ years of experience building AI-powered products with foundation models and LLM integration patterns such as RAG and agents.
- Experience with traditional search and retrieval infrastructure including Elasticsearch and OpenSearch.
- Experience with vector databases including Pinecone, Weaviate, FAISS, and Milvus.
- 3+ years of experience with MLOps, data pipelines, and evaluation systems using offline metrics and online A/B testing.
- Experience architecting secure and compliant AI solutions in regulated environments such as HIPAA- or GDPR-governed settings is preferred.
- Familiarity with human-in-the-loop systems, clinical decision support frameworks, human alignment, factual accuracy, and model interpretability is preferred.
- Contributions to open-source AI frameworks or applied research in NLP, healthcare AI, or generative AI safety are preferred.
- Experience with early-stage team growth and leading or mentoring AI, ML platform, or applied research engineering teams is preferred.
