Responsibilities
- Own the architecture of Beckett’s services, data flows, integrations, failure modes, databases, legacy systems, and frontends.
- Design scalable service boundaries, contracts, data ownership models, migration paths, and systems that support autonomous iteration.
- Lead PHP monolith strangler-pattern migrations and Java-to-TypeScript service replacements with low-risk, byte-compatible cutovers.
- Lead moderate-to-significant projects spanning one to two quarters and coordinate engineers, stakeholders, and dependencies.
- Set standards for security, testing, observability, documentation, incident response, and operational excellence.
- Use operational data to improve system stability and performance.
- Lead adoption of AI-assisted engineering standards, guardrails, workflows, and agent configurations across the technology organization.
- Mentor senior and mid-level engineers through design reviews, pairing, and feedback, and facilitate knowledge sharing.
- Communicate blockers, delays, technical risks, and priorities to engineering and business stakeholders.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including technical leadership of multi-engineer, multi-quarter projects.
- Expert-level backend experience with TypeScript/Node.js and/or Java, with effectiveness across TypeScript, Java 21, PHP, Python, and C#.
- Hands-on production experience across the full stack, including React/Next.js frontends, APIs and service layers, relational data stores, and infrastructure.
- Experience modernizing legacy systems through strangler-fig migrations, monolith service extraction, or platform re-architecture under live traffic.
- Deep PostgreSQL and MySQL expertise covering data modeling, migrations, performance, and shared-database coupling.
- Strong distributed-systems knowledge, including service boundaries, REST, GraphQL, gRPC, SQS, idempotency, and failure handling.
- Production AWS experience with ECS, Lambda, networking, and IAM, plus AWS CDK and/or Terraform infrastructure-as-code experience.
- Experience raising engineering standards around testing, observability, documentation, and incident response.
- Hands-on experience with AI coding assistants and agentic tools such as Claude Code, Copilot, or Cursor, including integrating them into CI, code review, and documentation workflows.
- Excellent written and verbal communication with technical and business audiences.
- Experience with frontend architecture at scale, design systems, micro-frontends, performance budgets, or React Native/Expo is preferred.
- Experience with e-commerce, marketplaces, payments, high-traffic consumer platforms, Snowflake, ETL pipelines, dimensional modeling, or applied machine learning is preferred.
- Experience building LLM-powered features or platforms using Anthropic/OpenAI APIs, retrieval-augmented generation, evaluations, or agent frameworks such as MCP is preferred.
- Interest in sports cards, gaming, or collectibles is preferred.
