Responsibilities
- Design, develop, configure, test, deploy, and maintain healthcare interfaces using Mirth Connect.
- Build HL7v2 workflows for message parsing, transformation, validation, routing, and delivery using JavaScript-based logic.
- Integrate healthcare systems through TCP/MLLP, HTTP/HTTPS, SFTP, and related protocols.
- Monitor and support production interfaces, troubleshoot connectivity and message-processing issues, and perform root-cause analysis.
- Improve reliability through logging, monitoring, alerting, error handling, and operational automation.
- Collaborate with engineering teams, healthcare organizations, vendors, product managers, architects, analysts, and other stakeholders.
- Participate in technical design, architecture, code, and configuration reviews.
- Create interface specifications, mapping documents, design documents, and operational runbooks.
- Mentor engineers and contribute reusable integration patterns, engineering standards, and platform improvements.
- Participate in an on-call rotation supporting critical production integrations.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software engineering and/or healthcare integration experience.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience developing and supporting Mirth Connect integrations.
- Strong practical knowledge of HL7v2 message structures, acknowledgments, and common message types.
- Experience designing and implementing Mirth Connect channels, connectors, filters, transformers, and JavaScript logic.
- Strong experience with TCP/MLLP, HTTP/HTTPS, and SFTP.
- Experience troubleshooting production connectivity, message delivery, transformation, routing, and downstream-system issues.
- Working knowledge of JavaScript, SQL, relational databases, software development lifecycle practices, source control, testing, deployment, and production support.
- Understanding of SSL/TLS, certificates, keystores/truststores, and secure endpoint configuration.
- Strong debugging, analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Preferred: FHIR, EHR/EMR integrations, healthcare information exchange, CCDA/C-CDA, XDS.b, XCA, REST APIs, web services, MongoDB or other NoSQL databases, AWS, Azure, GCP, and interface engines such as Rhapsody, Corepoint, or Cloverleaf.
- Preferred: Mirth Connect Certified Developer certification and participation in healthcare interoperability or technical communities.
